Why I Use the EWG App (and What to Keep in Mind)

The Environmental Working Group (EWG) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization with a mission to empower people to live healthier lives in a healthier environment.

They’re all about creating real change—from what ends up on grocery store shelves to what we bring into our homes. EWG gives consumers the tools to make better choices, which in turn helps move the market and pressure policymakers to take action. Learn more at ewg.org.

My take?

The EWG app is incredibly helpful for figuring out whether a product is truly clean—or just marketed that way. That said, I’ve noticed it sometimes gives lower scores to products with natural ingredients (like essential oils) simply because they could be irritating to sensitive skin. So while it’s a great guide for spotting harsh chemicals or red-flag ingredients, I always recommend pairing it with your own judgment and body wisdom.

Another database I love for skincare and cosmetics is INCI Decoder—it’s awesome for breaking down what each ingredient actually does.

In health,

Stefanie xoxo
